I know Pilates changes lives because it changed mine.

When I was in my early 30s, a back injury left me pretty much unable to move for two months. I couldn't stand up straight. I couldn't walk or sit without pain. Thankfully it wasn't permanent, but I knew I never wanted to feel that immobile and helpless again. I had never done Pilates before, but I knew that a strong "core" was supposed to help prevent back pain, and that Pilates was supposed to strengthen my core. I signed up for Pilates private lessons at our local gym and was immediately hooked.

Pilates made me feel great! I felt strong in a different way than I did after a run or bike ride or taking the latest class at the gym. I loved the combination of muscle-shaking exercises and flowing movement. I loved the mental and physical challenge of willing my body to do something that seemed impossible, and then doing it. I especially love that after all of these years, I've never had another episode of back pain.

I decided to make Pilates my career. I completed a 450-hour, comprehensive Pilates teacher training program and passed the Pilates Method Alliance certification exam.

I love helping my clients move better and feel stronger. As a teacher, I strive to make Pilates relevant to students' daily lives, giving them knowledge, tools and physical strength to help them do everything they do with better alignment and less risk for injury.

I have been privileged to work with people of all ages, sizes and abilities. My happiest moments are when clients tell me that their Pilates practice is having a positive impact on their lives outside the studio -- that they are more aware of their posture after doing Pilates, or that they're no longer feeling the pain they had before they started Pilates. Then I know Pilates is changing their lives, too.
